About Alpine Eagle

At Alpine Eagle, we are a team of machine learning practitioners and robotics engineers, building the first airborne, swarm-based system to provide protection against the rising drone threat. We believe that recent conflicts have shown the malicious and disruptive potential of drones in both civilian and defense scenarios. In addition, we are convinced that the next step in counter-drone is air-to-air. We want to ensure that all governments and institutions that believe in personal freedom and the rule of law have cutting edge solutions to protect against this rising threat.

We offer a work environment that is inclusive and open, with a flat hierarchy, and a purpose-driven team. We want to reinforce a culture where great ideas can flourish, and great people collaborate.

How you will make an impact

You’ll work as part of an experienced and rapidly growing team of software and robotic engineers developing motion planning and multi-agent control software for a new generation of airborne counter-drone systems. You’ll be able to see immediate results of your work by participating in flight tests and will get to lay the foundations of a new generation of multi-agent aerial systems. More specifically, you will:
• Design and develop our swarming platform of highly automated UAVs.
• Design, develop and maintain our swarming simulation and training environment.
• Apply your knowledge of machine learning, numerical optimization, and real-time control to develop distributed motion policies.
• Review academic literature and inject latest advancements in the state of the art into our system development.
• Design and implement interfaces to peripheral systems such as the perception stack and ground control unit.
• Deploy your results to edge-computing platforms on our UAV fleet.
• Contribute to the system architecture and product roadmap with your team.
• Mentor junior team members and interns.

Requirements

• M.Sc. or PhD in Robotics, Control Theory, Computer Science or several years of experience in related fields.
• A solid understanding of motion planning, numerical optimization, control theory principles and system architectures for autonomous systems.
• A solid understanding of machine learning principles and software frameworks.
• A record of successful research on machine learning and/or motion planning methods and their application to physical systems is a strong plus.
• Experience with operating and handling UAVs is a strong plus.
• Experience with NVIDIA Jetson-based platforms and ROS2 is a strong plus.
• A hands-on attitude and strong sense of ownership.
• You approach complex problems systematically and document your results.
• You are a team player. You win when the team wins.
